Support Homes for the Brave Annual Fund

Did you know that between 3,000 and 4,000 Veterans in Connecticut are homeless? The most effective programs for homeless Veterans are community based, nonprofit, veterans helping veterans groups. You can support these individuals by giving to the ABRI/Homes for the Brave Annual Fund today.

For seven years, our nonprofit organization, ABRI/Homes for the Brave, has served over 550 homeless Veterans through our transitional housing program. Eighteen of these men have also resided in our permanent supportive housing facility, Waldorf House. We see a growing need to offer services to homeless Veterans, and ABRI continues to rise to this challenge. During this time of economic uncertainty, people carefully consider their financial giving decisions. We would be grateful if you choose to help us provide our Veterans with services that they have rightfully earned.

Through the ABRI/Homes for the Brave Annual Fund, you will help men like James. As a United States Navy Veteran, James served on the U.S.S Nimitz before losing his business and family and becoming homeless. While at Homes for the Brave, James took advantage of training programs which Connecticut’s Green Team offered. Currently, he is employed full time as the Green Team Operations Director and has secured an apartment.

We recognize the need to expand services for a new generation of Veterans as they return from Iraq and Afghanistan, specifically our female soldiers. To address these changes, ABRI/Homes for the Brave has begun preparations to open Female Soldiers: Forgotten Heroes (FS:FH). FS:FH will offer 15 beds and provide the same services as Homes for the Brave with additional services specifically designed for women. Presently, less than 10 beds are dedicated to homeless female Veterans in Connecticut.

We value any amount you can afford. Our historic first annual fund will provide a funding base for all of our programs. With your help, we will continue to combat Veterans' homelessness. Within five years, we hope that homelessness amongst Veterans will not be a newsworthy headline. Our supporters, who have always been so generous, will directly affect the success of this goal.

Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year,

Thomas E. Hill, Chairman of the Board of Directors

Joy Kiss, CEO & Executive Director
